"Queen of Hip-Hop Comedy” will Headline Freedom Weekend Comedy Show (Sat., April 29)

Detroit -- March 30, 2006 - The Freedom Institute’s Freedom Weekend V’s Comedy Show at the Music Hall will feature the Comedian Sommore, along with Comedian Alonzo Bodden at the Music Hall on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at 8 p.m.

“Freedom Weekend has always included entertainment in its 3-day event schedule and we are especially excited about our comedy show.  Sommore is hilarious and I know she is bound to have us all cracking-up,” Lee said.

Sommore is known across America as the “Queen of Hip-Hop Comedy.” The Trenton, NJ born comedic actress offers audiences a hilarious, piercing look at today’s issues from the perspective of woman who lives and loves life.

She tells her message the only way she knows how . . . straight up! With a sharp wit and cutting sarcasm, Sommore speaks about the things that most women only think about, but never say.  Sommore’s comedic style is centered on everyday scenarios that she and those in her audiences experience. Her views represents the importance of being able to freely express herself first and foremost, to think intelligently, and always represent herself with grace, style and class.

Appearing and hosting a plethora of shows including touring with The Queens of Comedy, on Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam, BET’s Live From L.A., BET’s Comicview, Showtime At The Apollo, and the Oprah Winfrey Show--- Sommore’s quick verbal wit has added a new dimension to stand-up comedy and generates much demand nationwide.

The Freedom Weekend Comedy Show will also feature a guest appearance by Alonzo Bodden, a native New Yorker, who currently lives in L.A. Alonzo, has appeared on shows including TV's Last Comic Standing, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Make Me Laugh, Friday Night Videos and the Apollo. He was also the first comedian invited to appear on The Keenan Ivory Wayans Show and has performed his act on a variety of other comedy shows.
