on stage Freedom Weekend with nationally known poets

Detroit, MI — April 6, 2006 – “Take the Land Poetry Slam,” will hold three weekly competitions at 8:00 pm each Tuesday starting on April 11th and ending on Tuesday, April 25th at  Beans and Bytes, a restaurant located at 4200 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48201 (near Warren Ave.).  The winner of each week’s contest will go on to perform at the finals, which will be held on April 29th at 1:00 pm in the Riverfront ballroom of Cobo Center. Prizes include $500 cash to the top winner and an opportunity to perform at the event.

Freedom Weekend V’s Take the Land Poetry Slam will highlight a variety of nationally known poets and showcase finalists on the same stage. The Global Influence of the Hip Hop Culture will manifests itself in some of the country’s top talent performing before a live audience.

In addition to performing Freedom Weekend, the judges and featured artists for the poetry slam contest will include 2006 Grammy nominees The Last Poets and 5-time Apollo winner poet Jessica Care Moore.
