Nike Super Shoe Giveaway Freedom Weekend

Detroit, MI – April 24, 2006 -- Nike has donated over 1,000 pairs of gym shoes for men, women and children for distribution Freedom Weekend. Coupons are being distributed to local radio stations where they will be given away as a part of an on-air promotion for the upcoming Freedom Weekend V festivities.

Listeners who win the on-air, call-in contest will pick up coupons at the local winning radio station. Winners will then redeem the coupons at Cobo Conference Center on Saturday April 29th at Freedom Weekend V between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.  Additional opportunities to receive giveaways will take place sporadically throughout the day, until the last pair is gone.

Although Nike has provided many different sizes and styles, winners should be aware that both are limited and on a first-come first-serve basis. Contest winners must go to the Freedom Institute booth located at Cobo Conference Center - Wayne Hall, Booth 1, as early as possible on Saturday, April 29, 2006.

This is the second year Nike has sponsored the Freedom Weekend gym shoe giveaway in support of Freedom Weekend.

Freedom Weekend V will take place this year April 26th through April 29th and will include a number of youth-oriented events, i.e., Ford/Detroit Branch NAACP Career Day, Young Filmmakers/Writers Workshops and the Young Filmmakers Festival.

Young adults will enjoy “The Global Influence of the Hip Hop Culture” [1p - 3p], who may also want to participate in the Stop the Violence Symposium [3:15p - 4 p], as well as the Emerging Leaders Forum [4p – 6p].  The 7k Walk/Run will begin at Cobo's Atwater entrance at 8a.  The Parade of Homes, Business, Health Empowerment and Small Business Networking expos, for example, are also areas of interest. Of these events, the Hip Hop event is the only one a fee is attached:  ages under 17 years, $10; 18 years and older, $15.

Freedom Weekend V also presents entertainment at the Music Hall:  R&B concert featuring Kenny Lattimore & Chante Moore and Donell Jones on Friday, April 28; and a Comedy Show featuring Sommore, the “Queen of Comedy,” and Alonzo Bodden both held at the Music Hall.  Call TicketMaster for ticket information.

The 2006 Freedom Weekend V corporate sponsors are Dalessandro Contracting Group, Realcheaphouse.com, Comcast, Chase and Charter One Bank.
