The NMA, in partnership with PDMC Motorsports of Oakland University, brings NASCAR to Meet Motown

Freedom Weekend (Sat., 4/29)

Detroit, MIApril 14, 2006 -- It only seems natural that NASCAR [National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing] and “Motown,” would eventually meet with the help of the National Motorsports Association, a non-profit Michigan-based organization. Come meet “our nation’s ‘first’ African American owned NASCAR racing team” owner, and Detroit native Julius Curry at Freedom Weekend V, Saturday April 29th at Cobo Center.

Curry is currently the president of NMA and is revving his engine for Freedom Weekend V.  Curry, 26, former NFL player (Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers) and owner of Curry Racing, Inc., recently made history on March 17, 2006 as his team made its mark at the Atlanta Speedway’s Craftsman’s Truck Series, # 8.  This race truck and other race cars will be on display, along with Detroit Public Schools students at Herman A. Breithaupt Career and Technical Center’s three-wheeled electric race car that has been clocked at 70 mph and has a range of 60 miles on one charge of its two 12-volt batteries.

The National Motorsports Association was founded in 1996 in an attempt to fulfill a great need for motor sports enthusiasts to unite, share information and mechanical skills that would increase their participation in motor sports events.

PDMC Motorsports of Oakland University will offer workshops in Wayne Hall – Booth 38. Dr. Patrick E. Dessert, Director of Product Development & Manufacturing Center at Oakland University, will present several workshops:  11 a.m. - PDMC Motorsports Program at Oakland University; 12 p.m. - Getting Started in Motorsports; 3 p.m. - Jobs in Motorsports.  For more information about PDMC, visit the website www.pdmcmotorsports.com. Curry will present a workshop entitled The Business of Motorsports at 2 p.m.

Join Curry and team and PDMC for questions and autograph signing opportunities at Freedom Weekend 2006.  WWJ-950 Radio will provide promotional support for the automotive display.  For additional information about Curry please visit his website at www.Curryracinginc.com .

The 2006 corporate sponsors for Freedom Weekend V -- Thursday, April 27, 2006 to Friday, April 29, 2006 -- are Dalessandro Contracting Group, Realcheaphouse.com, Chase, Charter One Bank and Comcast.
